Tanana Fair 2008

Tanana Valley State Fair 2008

While living in Anchorage between 1991 and 2001, the potters formed the Anchorage Clay Arts Guild. Shirley served as Secretary and newsletter editor. ACAG honoured her with a lifetime membership when she moved.

It was while Shirley and her husband lived in Anchorage that the potters in Fairbanks began forming the Fairbanks Potters Guild. So, upon returning to Fairbanks, the FPG was a natural magnet. Being invited to serve on the Guild's Board of Directors lead to being elected President, serving for 3 years.

The FPG maintains a space at the Tanana Valley Farmers Market every summer from mid May to mid September and on the first Saturday in December at the Farmers Market Christmas Bazaar.

Every year in August, Shirley can be found at the Tanana Valley State Fair selling her pottery and visiting with friends and customers.

The Empty Bowl Project is a major fund raiser that the Fairbanks Potters Guild sponsors every year at the
Fairbanks Community Food Bank. Shirley donates 100 bowls to this event. All procedes from the bowl sales
help the Food Bank in it's quest to feed the hungry and malnourished in the Fairanks area.
